Experimental Sound + Visual Memory Machine

UnstableMemory is a standalone experimental sound and glitch visualiser app designed for live exploration, audio deconstruction, and digital distortion. Think databent visuals meeting dusty VHS overlays and sonic glitch and decay.

This early release is available for Mac and Windows. No installation required—just unzip and run.


How to Use

Step-by-step Instructions for macOS:

  1. Download the Mac ZIP fileClick the download button and save UnstableMemory0_3-macUniversalBuild.zip to your desktop or downloads folder.
  2. Unzip the fileDouble-click the ZIP file to extract UnstableMemory.app. It will appear as an app bundle.
  3. Allow the app to run (important security step):
    • The first time you open it, macOS might block it with a warning.
    • To bypass this:
      • Right-click (or Control-click) on UnstableMemory.app
      • Choose “Open”
      • When prompted, click “Open” again.
    • This tells macOS you trust the app, and it won’t warn again.

  4. Enjoy the glitchThe app runs in fullscreen by default. Press Esc to exit fullscreen if needed.




Step-by-step Instructions for Windows:


  1. Download the Windows ZIP fileSave UnstableMemory0_3-windows_build.zip (or similar) to your desktop or downloads folder.
  2. Unzip the file
    • Right-click on the ZIP file
    • Choose “Extract All…”
    • Choose a folder (e.g., your desktop) and click “Extract”
  3. Run the appOpen the extracted folder and double-click unstablememory0_3.exe.
    🔧 If Windows asks for permission (SmartScreen), click “More info”“Run anyway”. This is a standard warning for unsigned apps.
  4. Dive into distortionThe app launches full-screen. You can press Esc to exit fullscreen if you prefer windowed mode.



🔍 What You Can Do currently:


  • Load and manipulate built-in audio samples
  • Trigger glitch visuals & audio scrambling in real-time
  • Experience unstable audio states where digital memory bends, loops, or fails
  • Create unique audio-visual exports (coming soon in future version)
